Western Successfully Validates PCI Compliance

February 15, 2017

The Bank Card Committee would like to announce the successful completion of Western’s PCI DSS Security Audit! While maintaining PCI compliance is a perpetual process, this is a remarkable achievement as Western becomes the first Canadian university to successfully complete a PCI DSS Security Audit for a second time.

Over the past several months, Western has been working with NCI Secured Intelligence in a five phase process that validated Western’s compliance with the most current version of PCI DSS (version 3.2).  During this process, NCI interviewed selected Western Merchants, completed a scope discovery, a gap analysis and assisted Western with remediation of these findings.  NCI also assisted Western in completing our Self-Assessment Questionnaires for our payment processor (Moneris).  The final phase of this project was the successful completion of a Report on Compliance (ROC), which Western received in January.

As PCI DSS are continually being enhanced to ensure the security of cardholder data, NCI highlighted a few key areas of focus for the Bank Card Committee going forward.   Western must continue to proactively identify threats and vulnerabilities as maintaining PCI compliance is vital to the long-term success of every merchant who processes card payments.

The Bank Card Committee would like to thank all Western Merchants for your continued support.  It was instrumental to the University achieving this truly outstanding accomplishment.
